At 4:15 p.m., firefighters responded to the building at 1035 Elizabeth Avenue, Ruby Contreras, a spokeswoman for the city said.
The heavy blaze necessitated firefighters to call a second and third alarm, requesting additional units to the scene, Contreras said.
No injuries were reported and the fire declared under control after two hours, Contreras said. Multiple fundraisers have been set up to assist those displaced by the blaze.
